Well, looks like I've got a "Frankenstein" EE here. Decoded Vin shows it as an E according to Fords specs. Has 8 Lug 16' rims. I had another E sitting next to me at a stop light a couple of days ago and my van, suspension and all, sat up higher than that other E did.
Vin Decoded in the Texas Inspection computer system says it's a Guess I'll rip off that chrome E badge off the back door and put a chrome E badge on it. Should get more money for it when it comes time to sell it.

If you stock up on water, have a decent battery bank, have 3 St. If you are truly a minimalist and use lightweight plastic, then a half ton would be a better choice. When I was younger, I used to like to see how fast I could go; now I like to see how fast I can stop. One tons are OK, but they are more expensive which is unnecessary. A half ton with weight will ride like crap unless you beef up the suspension but will ride nicely when empty.
If you have ANY doubt, go bigger. If you think maybe you might possibly tow, go bigger. No matter what, a is not overkill. A one ton could be. A half ton will likely be too small- maybe barely acceptable. It doesn't take much to squat a or smoke the brakes. Do a search on the site if you want to learn more about that.
