The assistant than jumps off the platform and Copperfield throws the sheet away. It seems as the assistant has miraculously transformed into him! It is not the same assistant. It is probably her sister, maybe even a twin. She is hidden there the whole time and ties herself up when Copperfield leaves his place.
David Copperfield Metamorphosis revealed In his rendition of this famous Houdini classic, David Copperfield is tied up and lifted above the stage. When the box is opened, Mrs. Houdini is found inside the bag with the knots and seals unbroken and her hands secured in exactly the same way as her husband's.
The answer to this trick begins with the binding of Houdini's wrists. He was an expert at freeing himself from ropes and ties, especially those in which the knots could be slipped and tightened later. He would simply free himself from the ropes as the bag was being raised above his head. The audience could not see this, as his hands were purposefully bound behind his back. The rope used to secure the sack itself ran through a series of metal eyelets around the upper edge of the bag, so the rope would be both inside and outside of the bag.
Houdini merely needed to pull on the rope from the inside of the bag to open the sack. Posted: Jan 17, pm. First off, the Appleton museum is not closing, the exhibit is changing. And it IS all about the money. Sid was in fact receive a handsome sum of money for his exhibit and they did not want to pay it anymore. So they are coming up with their own exhibit. It's a matter of public record. We have been fighting about this issue for some time now.
I think Whit's idea has merit. This person in "charge" of the museum will not listen to us. She will listen to people who are paying her. She, and her museum, should be painted as totally hypocritical. They are anti-Houdini, Houdini would be turning over in his grave, etc. Everything that can be done to boycott and put the pressure on the people who employ her and who own the museum is the way to go. Could you guys find us names and addresses to right of the sponsors? This is outrageous, and must be fought. That woman is a "skedivo. Sort of a noble e-terrorism. There is no need to resort to "terrorism. I will dig up all the dirt I can on them. I'm good at that. If there are even three members of the board of directors of that museum in Appleton WI, there is bound to be a skeleton hidden in someone's closet.
Posted: Jan 19, am. Best of luck Bill. There is only one reason people do things like this, because they LOVE getting the attention from people for being controversial.
A true passionate museum operator isn't interested in profits or fame Shame on her for losing her focus. She only wants to expose it because she knows she's creating controversy and thus free advertising for her museum. That's a dirty rotten way to "preserve" history How about they lock her in the trunk for fun? Just make sure they use extra chain No wait, even better! Since she has such a fondness for the inner workings of Houdini's illusions, she should demonstrate the water torture cell instead If you were a hotdog, and you were starving I know I would!
Posted: Jan 19, pm. I suppose it's surprising but I must admit.. I'd be the first one in line to get inside the sub trunk! One thing I do suspect is that the folks who go on the Houdini tour are probably hoping to learn a bit.
I would bet they have the option of not seeing the secret and also most likely are "sworn to secrecy". The sub trunk is one of the first illusions I learned as a child.. I'm not sure that knowing it spoiled anything for me, only heightened my interest. Just my opinion.. Dr Magic. Don't bet your life that anyone will be "sworn to secrecy. I have an angle on how to combat the exposure. Anyone who lives in Appleton, please PM me, and I will tell you what it is. Serious inquiries only, please!
Go get 'em, Bill. If magicians can't use creative methods for manipulating people into doing what is, after all, only right, who could? Posted: Jan 21, pm. Hey didn't Houdini dabble in exposure in his day? Maybe some bad cardma coming back to him Dr Magic.
